LABEL LITERACY
How to Read a Supplement Facts Label
Every dietary supplement sold in the United States carries a Supplement Facts label. Knowing how to read it helps you understand exactly what you're taking.
This article is general education about label literacy. It is not medical advice.
Serving size and servings per container
The serving size tells you what one serving is (for example, one strip), and servings per container tells you how many servings are in the package. HELIX packages contain 30 strips.
Amount per serving
This line lists how much of each active ingredient is in a single serving. Each HELIX strip lists 100 mg of its active ingredient (NAD+ or Glutathione, depending on the product).
% Daily Value
Where a % Daily Value is established for a nutrient, the label shows what percentage of the recommended daily intake one serving provides. Some ingredients, including many used in specialty supplements, do not have an established Daily Value, in which case the label notes that.
Other ingredients
Below the Supplement Facts panel, the label lists other ingredients — things like flavorings, film-forming agents and sweeteners that make up the rest of the strip. Check this list if you have known allergies or sensitivities.
